Anyone who studies in Australia for more than three months needs to apply for a student visa. Student visa (category 500) holders can also work part-time (no more than 40 hours per fortnight) in addition to studying in Australia. Overseas students can apply for a "Temporary Graduate visa" (category 485) after graduating from Australia to live and work in Australia. After a certain period of residence, they can apply to become permanent residents. The length of stay depends on the Australian education qualifications you have completed. From July 1, 2023, bachelor graduates can be approved for a maximum of 4 years, master graduates can be approved for a maximum of 5 years, and doctoral graduates can be approved for a maximum of 6 years. During this time you can travel, work or continue your studies in Australia. From March 5, 2022, graduates holding HKSAR passports or British National Overseas passports can stay for 5 years after successful application.
